Meet your Mythos Team

Monday, August 20th, 2007

The Mythos website was updated today with the mention of all the people who are working on it.

This was posted by Travis Baldree, who is the main person behind the game and worked on Fate before Mythos.

I just wanted all of you to meet the whole Flagship Seattle team - we’re all going to try to be active in the forums to some degree, and this way you’ll know who’s who, and what they do! Everybody pretty much does more than one thing, and we all work together in the same room in one team.
This game would not exist without these guys - the best group I’ve ever worked with!

In no particular order…

Marsh Lefler -
Forum Name : Marsh
Marsh is the other Programmer here besides myself. We both work all over the place in code, so Marsh is a Jack-of-All-Trades programmer - he is also making some incredible tools for us to build quests and other nifty stuff.

John Dunbar -
Forum Name : Volbard
John does a LOT of stuff - Quest design, Particles, balance, game design, level layouts, and anything else that needs doing.

Jason Beck -
Forum name : Grimby
Jason Beck is our new Art Lead, and is responsible for the new Gremlin Female and Satyr looks, and is steering the ship as far as the look of Mythos from here on out.

Kevin Green -
Forum Name : Kevin
Kevin is our Environmental Artist. He works on tilesets, props, and also creature designs, and whatever else needs to get done.

Ian Welke -
Forum Name : sdedalus
Ian Welke is our QA Lead/Manager, and keeps the ship sailing straight ahead. Ian was also the QA Manager for Diablo 2, among many others. Ian is also working on Quest design stuff as well.

Brock Jones -
Forum Name : Senoji
Brock is our Producer up here - but he also does skill and item balance work and whatever else needs doing. He has a backround as a programmer, so his technical expertise makes him an especially great guy in this position.

Mike Fisher -
Forum Name : doesn’t have one yet!
Mike does our UI artwork, and wardrobe artwork, as well as whatever else we pass his way!

Martin Bartsch -
Forum Name - doesn’t have one yet!
Martin is our brand new animator. When you start seeing the new character animations coming off the line, you’ll know who is responsible for ‘em

Enjoy :)

Mythos Majorly Updated

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

There’s been a new Mythos update, one that’s sure to please. Here’s the details!

Todays publish includes performance improvements that should help remedy town slowness specifically, but should help out elsewhere too. Some machines should get as much as a 50% increase in FPS! Other fixes in this publish include:

* Players don’t collide with one another in town, preventing the ‘clogs’ at the zone-in that we were seeing.
* Rend Flesh is much faster, and can strike multiple targets at once.
* Animation replacement for all females.
* Some texture seaming fixes for Female Human and Female Satyr to reduce/eliminate the faint line along their faces, and the rings of flesh around the shoulders. Oo la la!
* The Bug form should now work and close properly. It shouldn’t submit multiple times when closed and enter is pressed again. Our QA Department loves this fix!
* Some attempted fixes for the loading hang that some were seeing.
* Fixed weapon aiming! Sorry about that! *slaps forehead*.

Servers Were Down Plus New Interview

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

The servers are Mythos were down forĀ a few hours tonight as the Mythos website states to perform maintenance on it. What’s great to hear is that the night before Mythos set a new concurrent user record of 531.

Mythos testers! Tonight we will be upgrading a bunch of network equipment at our data center, and Mythos will be down from 8:00pm to approximately midnight Pacific Time. We will put it back up as soon as possible afterwards. By the way, yesterday we set a new concurrency record for Mythos at 531 people playing. Great job! Your testing is making a huge difference for us, and we appreciate your efforts. You are helping to ensure that both Mythos and Hellgate: London will perform to all of our high standards. Keep it up!

To top this off, IGN’s RPG vault has a new interview up of Hellgate along with a few new screenshots. It’s 3 pages long and deals with a variety of issues.

Enjoy :)

What’s Coming Up!

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

Mythos creator Travis Baldree has posted a huge update on what’s to come in the latest, upcoming patch of Mythos. Enjoy!

* Rescalable UI! A dropdown in the options will let you dynamically scale up the interface for those of you at high res, or who don’t like teensy-weensy buttons.
* Mouse sensitivity slider
* More drastic differences in the arrangements of levels.
* Friends panel - keep track of your buddies and their online status
* Global/Local chat panes - so you don’t have to listen to EVERYBODY.
* New level type - the Mines.
* 70+ new weapons - weapons are now going to be a lot denser - shouldn’t be so long until you get upgrades
* Random quests! To give you stuff to do as we continue adding more content ( lots to come! ). We will continue to add new types and flavors of random quests going forward as well to help them keep from being too stale.
* New monster types - Scorpion and Zombie monsters and variations
* New monster variations of old ones - there was a bug keeping you from seeing anything like the number of monster types you should have been
* Higher level maps - so you don’t get quite so stuck around level 15
* New animations across the board for ALL males ( females coming in a following patch ). Overall, just much higher quality - we like ‘em.
* Rifles now have different damage ratings that are spread across the shots, as opposed to per-shot. Makes them easier to balance and understand ( the balance HAS changed on these )
* Pathing fixes - no more running through the fountain! ( among other things )
* A new ‘normal’ quest or two
* Sockets not visible on Bargain Hunter merchant panes
* Traveling salesman now not as exploitable - their inventory is shared for all players in the instance, so you can’t anchor it, come back, and reroll.
* Breakables not highlightable after breaking
* Quest dialogs now show ‘!’ ‘?’ before multiple-topic dialogs, so you can tell the state of individual quests
* Various changes to button names so it is clearer what they do
* Timberwolves don’t get stuck at level 6!
* Shouldn’t see nothing but Midas Flitters at higher levels
* A new music track for some dungeons
* Inconsistencies in attack rates between races/genders fixed
* Should be able to sell socketed items with stuff in them without issues
* Some of the overpowered socketables were nerfed a bit
* more breakables/chests ( especially in the overworld )
* Item qualities ( superior, etc. ) properly changing the armor/damages again.
* We have doors again! Only in Gothic-y tilesets right now ( more coming )
* Lots of bugfixes all over the place

- UP AND COMING AFTERWARD

* Zone 2 - Town 2 is nearing completion and we are getting Zone 2 in place. This means the concept of ‘world travel’ will be introduced, along with the reintroduction of skyships
* Lots of new level types, including new outdoor levels
* Lots and lots and lots more monsters
* New questlines to go along with all of that stuff
* More armor for Pyros/Gadgeteers
* New Hairstyles/customization options
* More music
* A bunch of other stuff.

It sounds like we’re in store for a lot of fun!

WorthPlaying reviews Mythos

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

WorthPlaying has written up a large review after having played Mythos and has also provided a mass of screenshots.

They also seem to confirm that there will be a fee for additional items, which hasn’t been 100% confirmed by FSS yet, but it has been hinted at before.

Great review of the game none-the-less, so go ahead and read it!

Enjoy :)
